After reading the many accounts about Arthur written during the last month, I was more than pleased to read Freddie’s thoughtful piece in the Huffington Post as well as Isherwood’s in The Times. The unsung hero of the Broadway musical is definitely the book writer, without whom we would be sunk. And Arthur was one of the best.

And yes, all of the student’s that have ever done ANNIE with us had never heard of the “New Deal”…it’s actually amazing to me, the amount of history I teach when directing!

“The amount of money proposed for education cuts is enough to destroy the quality of a country that already has a population which does not know who sits on the Supreme Court or who the past Presidents were and the only time they heard about the “New Deal” was when they saw the musical ANNIE!”

Not only the population, Freddie; it seems like this goes for half the Congress, too!

As a daughter of a (former) teacher, and a sister of a former-teacher-now-high-school-principal and sister-in-law of TWO teachers (both my brother in law and sister in law are teachers!), I am THRILLED by this award/grant you have initiated. This is just awesome. Thanks for recognizing those who do so much and are barely rewarded for the endless hours and work they put in for their students. It’s just awesome.

wow! does that not say it all. Interesting that while Atlanta observes a holiday you people just go put the essence of it into practice. I got into to trouble in nursing school because I thought it was better for children to learn something by experience then by being formally taught. You guys could have backed me up in many of my arguments with some teachers. Thanks for the article, kind of hard to read through the tears.
